A care home in Worcester is inviting the community and local school to join them for a ‘craftathon’ to raise awareness during Dementia Action Week.
Keen to share the team’s expertise and encourage more people to talk about dementia, Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, is inviting local people into the home, from 2.30pm-4.30pm, on Thursday 23rd May.
On the day, carers in the community will be able to have a coffee with Perry Manor’s dementia coaches, while their loved ones can enjoy getting crafty while being cared for by the expert team.
The session aims to provide carers with advice on the support available in the community as well as opportunities to discuss financial guidance, wellbeing assessments and the chance to meet other carers and share experiences.
The event has been designed to get local people talking, following on from Care UK’s The Big Dementia Conversation which was launched earlier this year to encourage a better understanding of the dementia across the nation. Care UK has created an online advice hub which takes a closer look at some of the less-talked-about symptoms of dementia and features expert advice from Care UK’s dementia specialists, who have more than 40 years’ experience.
Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor, said: “We can’t wait for the local community to join us for our ‘craftathon’ for Dementia Action Week.
“Here at Perry Manor, we’re passionate about raising awareness and reducing misconceptions around dementia. It can be challenging to know how best to support your loved one, or what not to say – which is why we’re inviting carers to join our dementia coaches who are keen to share their expertise.
“We believe that no carer should feel that they are alone, and we’re looking forward to welcoming some new faces and old friends for a chat over a cup of tea and to seeing the finished artwork.”
Perry Manor is a state-of-the-art Care UK home, which provides full time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short term respite care. Rated outstanding by the CQC, the home is designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema, cafe and hair salon, with plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
