Local school children name suites at Wilmslow’s newest care home

Home news

Pupils from a local primary school have won a competition to name the suites at a brand-new care home in Wilmslow.

Keen for names with cultural or historical significance to the area, the team at Care UK’s Long Stone Manor, on Manchester Road, reached out to Lacey Green Primary Academy for suite names, knowing that those with connections to the town would be the best to help with the task.

Inspired by famous Wilmslow residents, Lindow, Turing, Upton, and Finney have been chosen for the suites currently being built at the care home on Manchester Road.

Long Stone Manor will be divided into four suites, each comprising several bedrooms and a lounge for residents. This encourages the creation of tight-knit communities within the home and provides space for group activities.

The children based the suite names on notable past residents in their home town. The Lindow Suite is named after the famous Lindow Man from the Iron Age. Upton Suite was inspired by English clergyman, schoolmaster and literary editor James Upton. The Turing Suite pays tribute to one of Britain’s most famous mathematicians and computer scientist, Alan Turing, while the Upton Suite is named after miniature painter Samuel Finney.

As a thank you for their local knowledge and hard work, Lacey Green Primary Academy has received a £250 book voucher from the Care UK team.

Rachel Chapman, Arts Teacher at Lacey Green Primary Academy, said: “The suite naming project gave us an opportunity to revisit our local history, which has been really exciting for our pupils, both on a personal and academic level. We’d like to thank Care UK for their donation too, and we look forward to visiting again soon.”

Dave Ankers, Regional Director for Care UK, added: “Choosing the suite names for a new home in preparation for the opening is a key milestone, so it was important that the community was involved in the decision.

“We’re incredibly grateful to the pupils at Lacey Green Primary Academy for coming up with the winning suite names. We’re already looking forward to welcoming them for future activities when we open next year!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new Care UK home, which will open its doors in Spring 2025, will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
