Youngsters and care home residents are on the same page for World Book Day

A care home in Sevenoaks welcomed local nursery children to celebrate World Book Day.

Residents at Care UK’s Weald Heights, on Bourchier Close, were joined by children from Oakley Day Nursery for a fun afternoon to celebrate their love of reading.

To mark the special day, the team at Weald Heights dressed in the children’s favourite characters and set the scene for a storytelling afternoon with a reading nook, complete with blankets and toys.  The children thoroughly enjoyed listening to some of the residents retelling the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Commenting on the afternoon, resident, Mollie Bradshaw, said: “It was such a delight seeing the children at Weald Heights, and watching their faces light up as they watched the scene unfold.”

Maria Covington, Home Manager at Weald Heights, said: “At Weald Heights, we enjoy working closely with the local community, and were delighted to celebrate World Book Day with children from Oakley Day Nursery.

“We are always looking for exciting activities for residents and encourage new friendships, and this session was a great opportunity to create special bonds across the generations – young and older people alike really benefited from the time spent together.

“We’re looking forward to another visit from the children very soon where we’ll be inviting them to enjoy the film adaptation of Snow White in our cinema!”

Weald Heights is a purpose-built care home designed to deliver luxury hotel-style comfort for residents, complete with a café, hair and beauty salon, cinema and beautiful gardens. The home is divided into separate residential, nursing and dementia care suites, encouraging close-knit communities where residents can get to know each other, and where people with similar needs can be cared for together.
