A care home in Harrow has announced the winners of its barking mad competition.
Care UK’s Buchanan Court, on Sudbury Hill, ‘raised the woof’ with its very own edition of Crufts. As part of the contest, team members at the care home and residents’ relatives were invited to showcase their dogs’ skills and good looks, with residents also enjoying a ‘guess the dog parent’ quiz to figure out which dog belonged to which team member.
Eleven im-paw-sibly adorable dogs entered, with many winners receiving rosettes, including Rafti, a Eurasier, who took home two prizes for being best groomed and showcasing a high level of talent, while Cookie, a Cavapoo took second place, and Mr Darcy, a Shih Tzu came third.
Joining the judging panel was resident, Myrna Collins, who said: “I was so happy to be chosen to judge the event. It was enjoyable seeing everyone coming together to celebrate Crufts and seeing the dogs was a pure delight!”
Esther Adams, Home Manager at Buchanan Court, said: “We’re pleased to say our dog show was a resounding success. We loved seeing so many wonderful dogs strutting into our home – they made it very hard to pick a winner.
“We know just how beneficial animal therapy can be for older people, especially for those living with dementia, as being close to animals can help lift a person’s mood and stimulate social interaction. Many residents used to have dogs in their younger years, so they were thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of our judging panel and to meet so many adorable pooches.
“Congratulations to our winners – they certainly raised the woof this year!”
Buchanan Court provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable its residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own bar and hair salon, and there is plenty of space both in and outdoors for relaxation and recreation.
