Poole care home celebrates 10th birthday in style

A care home in Poole marked its tenth anniversary with a very special tea party.

Care UK’s The Potteries, on York Road, pulled out all the stops for a special birthday bash, 10 years after it welcomed its very first residents.

Residents, relatives, and the local community had the opportunity to dance and sing-along to live entertainment from John Springett Music. Following an afternoon of toe-tapping tunes, team members prepared a special afternoon tea, complete with a selection of homemade cakes, scones and sandwiches thoughtfully prepared by the home’s catering team.

Guests, which included the Mayor of Poole, Cllr Jo Clements, were also among the first to see the home’s new refurbished areas, which include a new café and reception area, as well as renovated gardens and dining rooms.

To celebrate a decade of providing care to the people of Poole, the home also announced the winner of its Local Heroes competition, which saw members of the community nominated to win £200 for their contributions to the community

The chosen winner was Kieron Franklin, a stroke rehabilitation trainer from JK House Training Centre, who received multiple nominations for his work in helping stroke survivors to rebuild their strength. Nominations praised Kieron for his proactivity, which has seen a specialist rehabilitation centre created for those with brain-related injuries, for his kind and empathetic nature, and for consistently supporting people to defy the prognosis of their doctors.

Kieron said: “It was such a lovely surprise to be named as The Potteries local hero – I couldn’t believe it. I will be using the prize money towards building the rehab centre, which is incredibly exciting.”

Zita Turner, Home Manager at The Potteries, said: “Everyone had a wonderful afternoon celebrating our special milestone. It was great to see residents, relatives, and the local community all singing and enjoying the party together.

“The whole team worked hard to organise the event, and I am thrilled to say that their efforts were rewarded – our birthday party will definitely be one to remember. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who celebrated our tenth birthday with us, and for helping to make the day extra special.”

The Potteries has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives in a luxury environment. The home provides full-time residential care, nursing care, dementia care and respite care and also boasts plenty of space – both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
