A Newbury care home is celebrating a very special Scottish tradition – with the help of some impressive pipes!
Residents and team members at Newbury Grove, on London Road, dressed in their best tartan attire to mark Burns Night. To start the celebrations, residents enjoyed a special performance from bagpipers, who played Scottish traditional tunes and had residents dancing along to the sounds of Scotland.
After the performance, residents enjoyed a traditional Burns supper prepared by the home’s Head Chef, which included haggis, tatties and neaps. In true Scottish fashion, residents enjoyed a glass of Irn Bru, with their Scottish supper.
For four residents at Newbury Grove: Lynne McDermott, Jean Logan, Richard Dougal, and Sheila Clark, who each have Scottish heritage, the event brought back fond memories from their childhood.
Commenting on the afternoon, Sheila said: “I loved the bagpipes and really liked the haggis too – although I certainly couldn’t have it every day!”
Adarsh Kurian, General Manager at Newbury Grove, said: “We had a fantastic time celebrating Burns Night here at Newbury Grove. Many of the residents have fond memories of celebrating Burns Nights in their younger years, so this event was the perfect opportunity for them to reminisce and share stories of the past.
“It was wonderful to see everyone donning their Tam o’ shanter hats, tartan scarves and sipping on the national drink of Scotland – a good old Irn Bru!”
