Windsor care home residents celebrate with VIP guest

A very special celebrity guest has helped a Windsor care home celebrate its fifth anniversary.

Residents at Care UK’s Mountbatten Grange, on Helston Lane, were surprised by national treasure, Gloria Hunniford, as the home marked five years since it opened its doors.

Gloria spent time with residents and team members and enjoyed a tour of the home before settling in for a homemade afternoon tea and helped cut the all-important birthday cake. The home was decorated with Christmas decorations and balloons to celebrate the special milestone and residents enjoyed spending time and talking with Gloria.

Patricia Friis, aged 91, said “It was a pleasure and lovely surprise to have someone so special take the time to come and celebrate with us, we enjoyed the jokes and listening to her stories.”

Resident Pauline Robinson added: “It was very nice and pleasant to meet Gloria she spent time with each of the residents which was lovely to see. Gloria didn’t rush in talking and she was very interested in the conversations she was having with us.”

Debbie Winwood, Home Manager at Mountbatten Grange, said: “We are all big fans of Gloria Hunniford here at Mountbatten Grange, and the residents were thrilled to have her join in their celebrations.

“The whole team worked hard to organise our birthday bash, and I am delighted to say their efforts paid off – the event was a huge success. I would like to say a big thank you to Gloria for visiting us on our special day, and to everyone who makes Mountbatten Grange an amazing place to call home, and for helping to make the day extra special.

“It’s certainly been a busy five years. We’ve welcomed some real characters to the home, built relationships with brilliant local organisations, and worked hard to create a homely environment for everyone who spends time with us here. We’re excited to see what’s in store for the next five years and beyond!”

Mountbatten Grange is a care home that provides residential, nursing and short-term respite care, as well as specialist dementia care. The home features 72 en-suite bedrooms and enables residents to live active and fulfilled lives while also promoting independence. Mountbatten Grange has its own café, hair and beauty salon and cinema.
