A 102-year-old Ware care home resident has revealed her secret to living a long and happy life.
Kath Sexton, who lives at Care UK’s Snowdrop House on Baldock Street, marked her 102nd birthday on 7th November. Celebrating many happy years, Kath shared that her key to a long life is good health, to have fun and to stay close to your friends and family.
To mark the big day, the team decorated the home with balloons and banners and threw Kath a birthday party with her friends and family. To make the occasion extra special, the home’s talented Head Chef also baked Kath a delicious birthday cake.
Clare Crow, Home Manager at Snowdrop House, added: “We all had a wonderful time celebrating Kath’s birthday – she is a much-loved member of the Snowdrop House family, always singing and putting a smile on our faces.
“We work hard to support residents to lead fulfilling lives, and marking special occasions and birthdays plays a huge part in this. We love any excuse to celebrate the amazing people living at Snowdrop House and Kath’s birthday was no exception.
“It was an honour to be part of Kath’s special day and it’s a privilege to have her here at Snowdrop House!”
Kath was born in Tottenham, London, in 1921. During World War Two, Kath worked for the National Fire Service for four years.
In her younger days, Kath was a keen tennis player, playing for Brookside Tennis Club and still has a strong passion for the sport, watching Wimbledon each year. Now, Kath enjoys trips to the theatre and spending time with her friends.
Snowdrop House is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
