Sale care home residents have knitted 115 colourful squares to help support a local charity this Christmas.
Mary Evans, 83, Joyce Kaye, 91, and Aniela Michon, 95, three residents at Care UK’s Oakfield Croft, off Washway Road, began knitting in their younger years, and are putting their skills to good use this Christmas to support WHAG charity.
The WHAG charity offers housing and support to vulnerable people in and around Rochdale, Bury, Cheshire West and Chester.
Tasked with creating knitted squares that can be repurposed, the resident’s handiwork will be reused by the charity to create teddy bears, cushions, and blankets.
Commenting on their support, Mary Evans, said: “It was very nice that the charity were happy with our little squares and lovely to know it will go towards helping someone this Christmas.”
Dan Cole, Home Manager at Oakfield Croft, said: "Mary, Joyce and Aniela are all fantastic knitters, and were keen to support the WHAG charity this Christmas.
“Here at Oakfield Croft, we strive to support residents to lead fulfilling lifestyles. Helping residents to use their skills for good can be a fantastic way to provide older people with a sense of purpose. We know how much Mary, Joyce, and Aniela enjoy knitting, and how much they like helping others, which is why we were thrilled to support the WHAG charity's work over this festive period.
“We hope the charity enjoys the resident’s knitting squares and they find a good purpose this Christmas.”
