A care home manager in Newbury is celebrating after they were recognised at a national awards ceremony.
Shirley Summerbell, Home Manager at Care UK’s Winchcombe Place, on Maple Crescent, was awarded the title of ‘Outstanding Leadership’ in the Care UK Stars Awards.
The awards recognise individual and team excellence at more than 150 care homes nationwide across Care UK.
The ‘Outstanding Leadership’ award celebrates individuals who consistently deliver outstanding levels of support and motivation for their team. Winners are recognised for leading with clear direction in order to deliver exceptional quality of care and a values-based culture within the home.
Along with four other home managers from across the country, Shirley received the coveted accolade for her extraordinary efforts in forming close relationships with both her team and residents in the home, ensuring a welcoming and friendly environment for everyone.
Commenting on her win, Shirley said: “It feels wonderful to have my hard work recognised. I love my job and it’s fantastic that it comes across in the work I do.
“It is incredibly important to me that my team feel supported to help residents lead fulfilling lives. I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the whole team for all of their hard work in making Winchcombe Place a wonderful place to work – and for residents to call home!”

Winchcombe Place is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
