Frome care home opens its doors for a merry good time

Snow is falling, children are playing – and a Frome care home is opening its doors to help combat loneliness in the community this festive season.

On Tuesday 12th December, from 2.30pm-4.30pm, Care UK’s Rossetti House, on Welshmill Lane is helping members of the community to get into the festive spirit by joining residents and team members for their Festive Knit and Natter Group.

Studies have shown that almost 1.5 million older people feel lonelier at Christmas than at any other time of year*. To help tackle loneliness, Care UK has launched its Care to Share initiative, designed to support older people through the festive season.

More than 100 Care UK homes nationwide will be taking part to give older members of the community a safe and sociable space where they can enjoy some festive fun and good company – whether it’s singing along to Christmas carols or watching a Christmas movie with a mince pie.

At Rossetti House, visitors to the Festive Knit and Natter Group are invited to bring their current knitting projects along or start something new. To make the event extra special, the home’s Head Chef will be preparing a Christmas-themed afternoon tea with freshly baked goodies for everyone to enjoy.

Philip Vale, General Manager at Rossetti House, said: “Our regular Knit and Natter Group is always incredibly popular with members of the community – providing a wonderful opportunity to have a chat and make some friends and, this month, we’re putting a festive spin on things.

“The Care to Share initiative gives us the chance to support people in the community and we’re sure our special event is going to be enjoyable for all involved.

“The team and residents here at Rossetti House are looking forward to sharing their Christmas cheer as we open the doors for some festive fun!”

In the lead-up to Christmas, Rossetti House will be hosting a multitude of events for the local community to join in, including their Christmas Fair on Sunday 10th December. There’ll be music, craft stalls, a tombola and a raffle – providing fun for all the family. All the proceeds will be donated to Frome Fair Food Bank.

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Rossetti House incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been designed to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
