Residents at a care home in Leatherhead marked the festival of light, Diwali, with an afternoon celebrating Hindu culture.
Residents at Care UK’s Liberham Lodge, on Rectory Lane, celebrated the festival with an Indian-inspired lunch and a special performance from team members.
As part of the celebrations, team members dressed in traditional Punjabi clothes to perform an Indian-inspired dance routine for the residents to enjoy.
Keen to dress for the occasion, residents tried on traditional Punjabi scarves and learned more about the history of the festival while enjoying traditional Indian cuisine prepared by the Home’s Head Chef, which included, tandoori chicken, a selection of delicious sides dishes and saag aloo.
Commenting on the event, resident Edna Spencer, said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself. I especially loved wearing the beautiful traditional clothes kindly loaned to me. It brought back wonderful memories of my travels to India! The food, the dancers, everything about the celebration has been wonderful.”
