Residents at Care UK’s Buchanan Court, on Sudbury Hill, were treated to a special menu inspired by the famous beer festival, including salami, frankfurters, stollen and frikadeller – German meatballs – and, in true Oktoberfest traditions, everyone tried a host of German beers.
For the most authentic experience possible, the team donned Bavarian dirndl outfits for the occasion, and pianist Franz Black came along to teach residents traditional German songs.
Resident Patricia Haley aged 86 said: “The chef provided a wonderful array of food, and it was an enjoyable event with everyone dancing, singing and embracing the different cultures we have in the home.”
Esther Adams, Home Manager at Buchanan Court, said: “Everyone had a wonderful time at our Oktoberfest themed party, trying new food and drinks, having a sing-along to new music and learning more about the history of the German festival.
“Here at Buchanan Court, we’re keen to encourage residents to try new things and stay connected with the world around them. We’re committed to ensuring our home is a welcoming place for everyone – one where all cultures, interests and traditions are celebrated.
“I’d like to extend a big thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success – we’re already looking forward to raising a stein next year!”
Buchanan Court provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable its residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own bar and hair salon, and there is plenty of space both in and outdoors for relaxation and recreation.
