‘A day to remember’ – Cardiff’s newest care home opens its doors in style

Highlighted home news

Special guests, members of the community and furry friends were all in attendance to celebrate the grand launch of the town’s newest care home.

Care UK’s Llys Herbert, on Ty-Draw Road, celebrated a special milestone as resident Maureen Ashfield, along with the Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Councillor Bablin Molik, cut the ribbon to officially open the new care home.

Also joining the celebrations were members of Goldies Cymru and guests from Guide Dogs for the Blind – including some of the group’s four-legged volunteers.

After being treated to a glass of bubbly, guests enjoyed live entertainment from Cerys Rees, a local harpist, as well as the Corpus Christi High School Choir and a brass band to get everyone into the party spirit.

To make it an afternoon to remember, the team at Llys Herbert also organised a host of exciting activities for the whole family, including cookie decorating and the chance to sample some of the delicious home-cooked meals available at the home.

Maureen said: “It was an honour to cut the ribbon with the Lord Mayor and great to have a chat with her! I loved listening to the harpist and joining in with the choir for a sing-along – everyone looked like they had a wonderful time!”

Therisa Galazka, Home Manager at Llys Herbert, added: “Our grand launch party was a huge success and the perfect way to officially open Llys Herbert.

“Our neighbours have been so warm and welcoming, and we loved meeting so many local people during the event – we already feel like part of the community!

“We were delighted to be joined by our special guests and would like to extend a big thank you to Maureen and Councillor Bablin Molik for cutting the ribbon. It truly was a day to remember and we hope to welcome everyone again very soon.”

Llys Herbert is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the home has its very own cinema, café and hair salon, and there is plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
