A care home in Sutton Coldfield invited a local nursery to board the Willy Wonka express in celebration of Roald Dahl Day.
The team at Care UK’s Mercia Grange, on Lichfield Road, welcomed children from Seesaws Day Nursery Walmley into the home for a special reading session, which featured much-loved tales from Roald Dahl.
As part of the session, youngsters eagerly awaited the turning of each page as they enjoyed stories read by residents, with Celia reading her favourite parts of ‘Matilda’ and Jennifer reading ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. Residents and children also spent time chatting about their favourite books as well as bonding over their shared love for reading.
Lynn Bennett, Home Manager at Mercia Grange, said: “We had a wonderful time hosting our Roald Dahl-themed reading session, and it was a massive hit with the residents and children alike.
“Here at Mercia Grange, we’re extremely passionate about hosting new and exciting intergenerational activities for residents to enjoy – and Roald Dahl Day provided the perfect opportunity to do just that. It was heart-warming to see residents engaging with the little ones, sharing stories from their own childhood and reminiscing on their time as parents reading stories to their own children.
“A big thank you to Seesaws Day Nursery Walmley for joining our special Roald Dahl Day reading session – we look forward to welcoming the youngsters back to Mercia Grange very soon!”
