A wheelie good time! Chelmsford care home hosts classic car meet up

A classic car event helped residents at a local care home to cruise down memory lane.

Residents at Care UK’s Manor Lodge, on Manor Road, were auto-ly amazed when a collection of iconic cars pulled up outside of the home.

Among the cars were eight luxury Austins, provided by Austin Vintage Car Club. Residents were able to admire the craftsmanship, as well as share stories of their own memories with the classic cars and even take a spin round the car park.

 

Speaking of the experience, 82-year-old resident, Roy Ham, said: “My dad had a car like this when I was younger. It brought back lots of fond memories of days out and trips as a family.”

103-year-old Daisy Taylor, added: “I’m probably older than this car, but I felt honoured to be able to go for a ride – it made me feel like a princess!”

Maggie Ziemianska, Deputy Home Manager at Manor Lodge, said: “Here at Manor Lodge, we are always looking to organise exciting activities and experiences to keep our residents entertained and put a smile on their faces. 

“The cars were beautiful, and residents enjoyed living like royalty for an afternoon with a spin in them! Many residents owned similar cars, or had family who did, so it was a wonderful opportunity to reminisce and share treasured memories with one another. 

“I’d like to express my thanks to Austin Village Car Club for a brilliant afternoon which was thoroughly enjoyed by all!”
