Weymouth care home raises over £500 to help local charity

Home news

A care home in Weymouth has raised over £500 for a local cancer charity.

The team at Care UK’s Anning House, on Cross Road, have raised £500 for the C’Siders Cancer Support Group by hosting a fundraising summer festival.

Started in 2016, C’Siders provides support for anyone in the Weymouth and Portland area who is affected by cancer – whether a patient, carer or friend.

The team decided to host their very own festival in the home to raise money for the charity. Guests donned flower garlands and put on their dancing shoes and let loose to live music from local band, The Dorset Wrecks.

The team were also joined by VIP guest Councillor Kate Wheller, the Mayor of Weymouth, who officially opened the festival and enjoyed talking to residents about their memories of festivals and live music throughout their younger years.

The team and guests all had a great day and raised £500 for the charity.

Once the funds had been collected, the team invited representatives from the charity to the home for a special cheque presentation.

Heidi Williams, General Manager at Anning House, said: “We had a wonderful time at our festival, and it was great to present the donation to such a worthwhile cause in our community.

“Here at Anning House, we’re keen to create strong links with local charities and provide support where we can. We are honoured to aid this charity who we know will benefit a huge amount from the funds we raised.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who joined us for our festival and  helped us reach our target. The C’Siders Cancer Support Group helps so many people affected by cancer in Weymouth, and we hope our funds will aid in continuing their important work.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Anning House, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home provides full-time residential care, nursing care, dementia care and respite care. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
