Find out why meaningful activities are key for those living with dementia at local care home event

A care home in Cheadle is inviting the local community to learn more about the benefits of meaningful activities for those living with dementia.

On Wednesday 6th September, from 2pm-3.30pm, Care UK’s Abney Court, in Abney Hall Park, is inviting members of the community to its ‘Dementia and the Benefits of Meaningful Activity’ event to learn more about the importance of meaningful activities for those living with the condition.

Led by special guest and National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) Ambassador Sylvie Silver, the session will provide support and insight into what makes an activity meaningful and how to adapt activities to help support loved ones to live well with dementia.

NAPA is the UK’s leading activity and engagement charity. Supporting care services to prioritise wellbeing and promote activity, arts, and engagement, NAPA’s mission is to ensure that activity and engagement forms an integral part of care provisions, enabling people to live content, creative and connected lives.

Amcia Hara, Home Manager at Abney Court, said: “We understand it can be difficult to know how best to support a loved one living with dementia to enjoy a fulfilling life.

“With extensive experience in helping to improve the wellbeing of those living with dementia through meaningful activities, we’re looking forward to welcoming expert Sylvie Silver for our upcoming event. Our team at Abney Court will also be on hand to offer comfort, guidance, and support for those caring for a loved one living with the condition.

“We’re excited to be partnering with NAPA to help support those in the community caring for a loved one – we anticipate it will be an incredibly helpful afternoon for all involved and would encourage those interested to book their space to avoid missing out.”

Abney Court has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives.
