Feathered friends pay a flying visit to Frome care home

Residents at Care UK’s Rossetti House, on Welshmill Lane, had a hoot when they welcomed some very special feathered friends into the home.

The residents admired the birds of prey including, Olga the Eagle Owl and Winston the Barn owl, from Pitcombe Rock Falconry based in Bruton, Somerset.

The friendly and relaxed creatures were brought into the home by Alan Wells, founder of this wonderful rescue and rehabilitation not for profit organisation who shared their passion for birds of prey and information about the conservation of these impressive creatures.

Commenting on the visit, resident Corrina Sargood, said: “I loved seeing the birds fly around the garden. Most people love dogs, but I would like an eagle owl please!”

Phil Vale, General Manager at Rossetti House, said: “We loved welcoming our feathered friends into the home – we were all in awe of them. Everyone had a fantastic day that got all the residents smiling.

“Here at Rossetti house, we are always hosting new and exciting activities for residents. Animal therapy has proven to be incredibly beneficial for older people, as it can prompt social interaction, increase physical activity and be calming; this event for perfect for doing just that.

“I’d like to thank Alan and all at Pitcombe Rock Falconry for making the day so memorable.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Rossetti House incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been designed to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
