Yeehaw! Community joins Shrewsbury care home for ultimate summer festival

A care home in Shrewsbury hit the right note when it welcomed the local community to giddy up and join them for a very special event.

The team at Care UK’s Oxbow Manor, on Oteley Road, were joined by the people of Shrewsbury for their Barn Dance Festival.

 

With a special visit from a four-legged neigh-bour, younger visitors buckled up and put their cowboy hats on for a fun pony ride around the home’s gardens.

Guests had their cowboy boots at the ready and let loose to the timeless rhythms of the Golden Oldies era and line danced the afternoon away, with special live performances from Dale and The Singing Farmer.

There was also a bouncy castle on hand for younger visitors to enjoy, as well as a face painter.

The fun-filled festival formed part of Oxbow Manor’s Care Home Open Week celebrations, a national initiative that encourages care homes to open their doors and showcase what life in a care home is really like. 

Margaret, a resident at Oxbow Manor, said: “I thought the day was very good, the two men singers were excellent and the weather was nice too – the hard work paid off!”

Emma Tillyer, Home Manager at Oxbow Manor, added: “We were delighted to welcome the community to our summer festival to party the afternoon away. 

“Our special event offered a wonderful opportunity for us to connect with the community and show them what life at Oxbow Manor is all about. We loved putting our cowboy boots on and giving everyone a chance to showcase their best moves at our Barn Dance Festival.

“We’re already planning our next summer event so keep your eyes peeled – it’s set to be a summer to remember!”
