Welcome to Tokyo – Church Crookham care home joined by community for summer festival

A care home in Church Crookham transported the local community to the streets of Tokyo at a very special event.

The team at Care UK’s Bourley Grange, on Bourley Road, was joined by the people of Church Crookham for their first-ever summer festival inspired by Japanese culture.

Guests enjoyed street food inspired by cuisines from Japan, including Japanese onigiri, king prawn tempura, chicken teriyaki, Japanese yakiniku and Japanese yakitori which were prepared by the home’s Head Chef.

Alongside the tasty delights, guests danced and sang along to live entertainment from ‘Covergirlz’ who performed a vintage set from 1960s to 1980s pop and disco.

The fun-filled festival came as Bourley Grange celebrated Care Home Open Week, a national initiative that encourages care homes to open their doors and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Racquel Merdegia, General Manager at Bourley Grange, said: “We were delighted to welcome the local community to our summer festival where we had a fun-filled afternoon.

“Here at Bourley Grange, we are always looking for new and exciting ways to support residents to lead fulfilling lives – and what better way to do that than to host our very own summer festival. Everyone had a fantastic time enjoying the live music which offered a wonderful opportunity for intergenerational interaction, as residents, families, friends, and neighbours all came together to enjoy the festivities.

“We love to connect and build strong relationships with our local community in Church Crookham and thank you to all those who attended – we had a great day!”
