Typical signs of ageing or dementia? Care home hosts event to help local people

A care home in Shrewsbury is inviting the local community to learn more about dementia.

On Thursday 27th July, from 2pm-4pm, Oxbow Manor, on Oteley Road, is hosting a ‘Typical signs of ageing or dementia? – Recognising and responding to the symptoms’ event.

Aiming to raise awareness about the condition, the session will provide an overview of normal ageing and how symptoms differ from dementia.

Led by Care UK Dementia Specialist and Head of Nursing, Care and Dementia, Suzanne Mumford, the event will also explore the signs of dementia, as well as the differences between the three most common types of the condition.

The educational event follows the launch of Care UK’s free guide, One step at a time – A video guide to navigating dementia, which offers insight and guidance in a video format.

Tapping into more than 40 years of experience providing care for people living with dementia, the videos include detailed explanations and practical advice from Care UK’s experts, including Suzanne Mumford, managers and team members from care homes across the country, plus residents’ families and carers.

Emma Tillyer, Home Manager at Oxbow Manor, said: “As we age, we all get a little more forgetful, whether it’s forgetting a name, or walking into a room and having no idea what we went there for.

“In this special session, with our dementia expert Suzanne, we’ll be discussing normal ageing and sharing our knowledge around how this differs from a more serious condition such as dementia.  With extensive experience caring for those living with the condition, the team here at Oxbow Manor have a wealth of knowledge and advice to share.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Suzanne for what we anticipate will be an incredibly helpful afternoon for all involved.”
