A care home in Stockport received the seal of approval from a national care watchdog and has been praised by both its residents and relatives for its high standards.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC), which regulates all health and social care services in England, gave Care UK’s Ladybrook Manor, on Dairyground Road, an overall ’good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.
The home is rated good in all five areas, including safe, effective, caring, being responsive and well-led.
Inspectors praised the home’s person-centred approach to care, from residents’ care plans to the activities programme. A resident said: “They [team members] are very consistent, no restrictions we are free to do what we want”. Relatives spoke confidently regarding the personalised care their loved ones received. One relative said: "I'm very impressed with the place. I wouldn't want [resident] anywhere else”.
The report showed that residents felt supported by team members and that they were friendly and approachable. A resident said: “They do a hell of a job, it’s the attitude and friendship they give, exemplary”. Relatives also spoke highly of team members: “It’s lovely, the staff are brilliant”.
Inspectors were impressed with the wide range of activities available, including ones that are socially and culturally relevant to the residents. One team member commented: “We collate information around the person, their interests and engagement level”. This helped team members to understand residents’ interests. Relative’s comments included: "People come, I have seen singers" and "there was barbecue for people, cheese and wine nights”.
Mealtimes were described as relaxed and social occasions. The chef was knowledgeable about the resident’s likes and preferences. Residents were able to choose from the menu or alternatives could be provided, this included those who needed their meals to be modified, had allergies or who were at risk of losing weight.
Inspectors noted relatives were encouraged to be involved every step of the way when it came to their loved one’s care. This included regular meetings, as well as a yearly survey seeking feedback.
Susan Cameron, General Manager at Ladybrook Manor, said: “It's fantastic to read the positive feedback from the CQC inspectors. It’s a true testament to the team's passion and devotion to providing the highest standard of care to ensure residents live truly fulling lives.
"I would like to sincerely thank everyone at Ladybrook Manor for their commitment, especially over the past few years. I appreciate all they do because they make our care home such a wonderful place for all the residents to live and such a great place to work.
“I’m looking forward to celebrating this result with the residents and the team and building on our success in the future.”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Ladybrook Manor, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
