Mic drop! Community joins Edinburgh care homes for ultimate summer festivals

Care homes across Edinburgh got into the swing of festival season – with three special events taking centre stage.

The teams at Care UK’s Lauder Lodge, Murrayside and Cairdean House were joined by the people of Edinburgh for a summer to remember.

Lauder Lodge’s Flower Power Festival saw guests putting their dancing shoes on and letting loose to classic 1970s hits from a special live performance from an ABBA tribute band. Visitors were also able to witness showstopping performances from contortionist, Alexander Great.

Those venturing to Murrayside’s Murraystock Festival were treated to hits from across the decades from singing duo Margo and Steven. Everyone’s creative spirit was at an all-time high as they got stuck into the flower arranging and plate spinning activities and guests were also treated to a barbecue, specially prepared by the home’s Head Chef.

Guests at Cairdean House’s Summer Festival enjoyed a breath-taking performance from a talented magician, who had a host of tricks up his sleeve. Residents and guests were also joined by a special visit from the local Scottish fire and rescue services. There was also a variety of stalls available for guests to enjoy browsing, while younger visitors enjoyed getting their faces painted and the bouncy castle.

The fun-filled festivals formed part of the homes’ Care Home Open Week celebrations, a national initiative that encourages care homes to open their doors and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Margo, a resident at Lauder Lodge, said: “I had a fantastic day – I thought the activities were amazing and I even got up to have a boogie with the singers! It was a really fun day spending time with family and friends.”

Anees Riaz, Home Manager at Lauder Lodge, added: “We were delighted to welcome the Edinburgh community to our summer festivals to party the afternoon away.

“Our special events offered a wonderful opportunity for us to connect with the community and show them what life at our Edinburgh care homes is all about. We loved getting our dancing shoes on and giving everyone a chance to showcase their best moves.

“We’re already planning our next summer events so keep your eyes peeled – it’s set to be a summer to remember!”
