Church Crookham care home wins national award

A care home in Church Crookham is celebrating after winning a national award.

Care UK’s Bourley Grange, on Bourley Road, won in the ‘House Keeping Team of the Year’ category at the Hotel Housekeeping Honours Awards.

The Awards recognise companies, individuals, services and products that showcase exceptional industry professionalism and customer service, and demonstrate innovations and initiatives that make every guest or resident experience special.

Judges praised the group of close-knit individuals in the housekeeping team at Bourley Grange for ensuring the highest standards of service and cleanliness are always maintained. The team of four is led by the Hospitality Manager, Darwin Serrano, who has helped transform the home’s housekeeping standards.

The hardworking team have a strong sense of pride in their contribution to the home. A recent internal audit saw housekeeping graded ‘excellent’, and the team were also shortlisted for the ‘Best Housekeeping and Laundry Service’ in the Care UK’s Stars Awards 2022.

During the pandemic, the housekeeping team created indoor gardens that the residents could tend to and enjoy. The residents liked these so much that the team has taken it a step further by building a garden outside of the housekeeping area. Every Wednesday, they hold ‘coffee with residents’ time, and residents are welcome to come along to sit in the garden and chat with the team over coffee and cake.

Judges were impressed with the lengths the housekeeping team went to, ensuring they include themselves in home-wide activity, such as events. For example, the housekeeping team brought in supplies and equipment to makes hundreds of momos, a type of Nepalese dumplings, with help from the residents.

Racquel Merdegia, General Manager at Bourley Grange, said: “Winning the 'House Keeping Team of the Year' category at this year's awards is a brilliant achievement for the Bourley Grange team.

“With their much-loved coffee mornings, our housekeeping team has developed close connections not only with other colleagues but also with the residents.

“I am really proud of the team and what they achieve on a daily basis through their dedication and passion for residents. Congratulations goes to the housekeeping team – well done!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Bourley Grange, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and memory care in addition to respite care. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
