Care home to help local people navigate ‘life-changing’ dementia diagnoses

A care home in Sutton Coldfield is inviting the local community to learn more about living with dementia.

On Wednesday 26th July, from 2pm-4pm, Care UK’s Mercia Grange, on Lichfield Road, is inviting members of the community to its ‘Adjusting to a Diagnosis of Dementia’ event.

Led by special guest, Chief Executive and Co-Founder of Dementia Pathfinders Barbara Stephens, the session will provide support and insight into how a journey with dementia may unfold following a diagnosis. Barbara will also offer guidance on how to live positively with the condition, while making important emotional and practical adjustments.

There will also be a helpful Q&A at the end of the event, and the opportunity to meet the friendly team at Mercia Grange and take a tour of the home.

Lynn Bennett, Home Manager at Mercia Grange, said: “We understand how difficult it can be to navigate the challenges that come with a dementia diagnosis. It’s life-changing for both the person diagnosed and their family, and it’s natural to have questions and worries about what may lie ahead – which is why we wanted to host this special event.

“Here at Mercia Grange, we have extensive experience of caring for people living with dementia, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Barbara to help those in the local community find out more about dementia and what a diagnosis might mean for a loved one.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming Barbara for what we anticipate will be an incredibly helpful afternoon for all involved – and we’d encourage those interested to book their space to avoid missing out.”

Mercia Grange is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia, and short-term respite care. The three-storey care home, which features 67 ensuite bedrooms, has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
