A sweet treat! Solihull care home residents party at summer festival

A care home in Solihull welcomed the local community to eat and dance their way into the summer season. 

The team at Care UK’s Blossomfield Grange, on Worcester Way, was joined by the people of Solihull for their first-ever summer festival – Blossfest. 

Guests enjoyed street food from countries around the world, which were prepared by the home’s Head Chef and local food sellers. From fish and chips to curries and nachos, there was something to tickle everyone’s taste buds – including a summer Pimms, which guests enjoyed in the home’s picnic area.  

Alongside their food of choice, guests danced and sang along to live entertainment from local Solihull performers, Andante and Ruby Ann, who performed a mixture of folk and classic pop songs from the 60s and 70s. 

The fun-filled festival came as Blossomfield Grange celebrated Care Home Open Week, a national initiative that encourages care homes to open their doors and showcase what life in a care home is really like. Always keen to support local charities and worthy causes, the festival event raised £154 for Age UK, and was added to the home’s existing fundraising pot, which currently stands at £686, not far off the home’s annual target of £1,000. 

Rebecca Jacob, Digital Marketing and Fundraising Manager at Age UK Solihull, said: “We are so grateful to the team at Blossomfield Grange for putting on another two successful events, and to everyone who joined in and helped raise such a fantastic amount for Age UK Solihull. As a local charity, every penny means so much to us and it’s fantastic that Blossomfield Grange are on track to reach their target of £1,000 in 2023, which is our 40^th anniversary year. Thank you to everyone involved.”

Everyone had a fantastic time enjoying the live music which offered a wonderful opportunity for intergenerational interaction, as families, friends, and neighbours all came together to enjoy the festivities.

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Blossomfield Grange incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
