Let the good vibes roll! Newbury care homes invite local community to a festival to remember

Festival season is in full swing in Newbury – with not one, but two summer events set to take the stage.

On Saturday 24th June, from 11am-3pm, Care UK’s Winchcombe Place, on Maple Crescent, is set to hit the right note as it opens its doors to local people for a Rio Carnival inspired festival.

Also joining in the festivities is Care UK’s Newbury Grove, on London Road, which is hosting a 1960s and 70s-themed festival on Wednesday 28th June, from 1pm-4pm.

The fun-filled festivals come as the homes celebrate Care Home Open Week, a national initiative that encourages care homes to open their doors and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Winchcombe Place’s Rio Carnival will see guests invited to dance along to live entertainment from popular local singers, Jan Robinson and Harry Goff, who will be performing a variety of classic tunes – sure to get the party started.

Visitors will also be treated to some delicious traditional cuisine, specially prepared by the home’s talented Head Chef. There will also be the opportunity to try some samba dancing, along with facepainting and a range of fun, family-friendly games, as well as a best-dressed competition.

Down the road, visitors to Newbury Grove’s festival will be able to enjoy live entertainment from Katy Kelly – showcasing the best tunes of the 60s and 70s, while feasting on a traditional summer barbecue.

Shirley Summerbell, Home Manager at Winchcombe Place, commented: “We’re excited to be opening our doors to the local community to celebrate Care Home Open Week with our very own festivals.

“For older people, reminiscing about nostalgic events, including festivals and watching live music, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. For those living with dementia, these positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood too.”

Adarsh Kurian, Home Manager at Newbury Grove, added: “We’re excited to be welcoming the Newbury community as we open our doors and ask everyone to join us in putting their dancing shoes on and busting out their best dance moves!”
