Giddy up! Shrewsbury care home invites local community to a festival to remember

A ‘darn tootin’ festival is coming to Shrewsbury – and you won’t believe where it’s taking place.

On Saturday 1st July, from 12pm-3pm, Care UK’s Oxbow Manor, on Oteley Road, is set to get everyone on their feet as it opens its doors to local people for its Barn Dance Festival.

The fun-filled festival comes as Oxbow Manor celebrates Care Home Open Week, a national initiative that encourages care homes to open their doors and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Oxbow Manor’s Barn Dance Festival will see guests line dancing along to live entertainment from Dale as he sings a host of classic tunes, as well as The Singing Farmer who will be performing Golden Oldies – sure to get everyone in the party spirit.

Joining in the summer fun will be a special four-legged neigh-bour – and younger visitors will have the opportunity to buckle up, put their cowboy hats on and ride a pony.

There will also be a bouncy castle, and a face painter on hand to keep younger visitors entertained.

Invited to wear their best checked shirts and cowboy boots, residents and guests alike will be treated to a traditional summer barbecue, plus homemade bread, jams and chutneys, specially prepared by the home’s talented Head Chef.

Emma Tillyer, Home Manager at Oxbow Manor, commented: “We’re excited to be opening our doors to the local community to celebrate Care Home Open Week with our Barn Dance Festival.

“For older people, reminiscing about nostalgic events such as festivals and watching live music, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. For those living with dementia, these positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood too.

“We’re excited to be welcoming the Shrewsbury community as we open our doors and ask everyone to join us in putting their dancing shoes on as we get the opportunity to be young, wild and free once more!”
