South Shields care home named in top 20

A care home in South Shields has been named one of the best in the county by the UK’s leading care home review website.

The website, carehome.co.uk, annually announces the winners of the Care Home Awards, which recognises the top-rated homes in each region, and Cheviot Court has been listed as one of the best from over 687 care homes in the North East.

The Care UK home, located on Horsley Hill Square, is known for its commitment to enabling residents to lead active and fulfilling lives. One of the celebrated aspects of Cheviot Court is that it provides daily group and one-to-one activities which are led by the lifestyle team.

The list of the most recommended care homes across the UK is compiled based on both the individual home and care group review score, which is calculated using reviews provided by service users and relatives.

With a score of 9.9 out of ten, 91 per cent of reviewers for Cheviot Court rated the care home as ‘excellent’.

One review said: “All I can say is that [my mum’s] care here has been excellent. The [staff] are second to none and so caring, friendly and always happy to help. There is always some kind of activity going on, which the residents love, and there is always a lovely, friendly atmosphere when you come into the building…I can say I can rest easy knowing my mam is being well cared for.”

Another review said: “The [staff] at Cheviot Court are amazing! The care they provide is second to none…All of our family enjoy going into the home, and we are always met with a friendly smile and a chat. We feel our mother is very lucky to live here. Thank you so much for looking after our mother so well – we know she is always in safe hands.”

Louise Damms, Home Manager at Cheviot Court, said: “We were over the moon to find out that Cheviot Court has been named a top 20 care home in the county. This is a brilliant achievement and a perfect testament to the team’s continuous hard work.

"I couldn't be more pleased with the warm and welcoming environment we have created. I am incredibly appreciative of everyone here for their ongoing commitment to helping residents to lead fulfilling lives. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped make Cheviot Court such a lovely place to call home.”

Cheviot Court provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The care home, which features 73 en-suite bedrooms, has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own music room, hairdressing salon and café.
