National care inspectors praise Mobberley care home

A national care watchdog has given a Mobberley care home its seal of approval, with relatives and residents praising the caring and attentive team members.

The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Care UK’s Cranford Grange, on Hall Lane, an overall ‘good’ rating in all categories, following an unannounced inspection.

The report illustrated the high quality of care and comforting environment created by team members, with one resident informing the inspectors: “I feel like its home. This is the best place… with all my own furniture and nice surroundings.”

The General Manager, Lisa Burrows, was praised for her approachability and responsiveness, as well as her commitment to ensure continuous learning and improvement across the team. Residents told inspectors Lisa: “will listen and is always open to help.”

The report highlighted how the team at Cranford Grange always prioritise the need to preserve residents’ independence and privacy as much as possible. This is encouraged by resident led meetings and the home’s high-quality environment, including dementia-friendly decorations, such as personalised memory boxes, to help residents navigate the home as easily as possible. The report noted that: “staff knew when people needed their space and privacy and respected this.”

The inspectors also praised the home’s Resident Ambassador initiative, noting this as: “an important aspect of the home”. The initiative sees two residents become ambassadors who each support other residents to share their views on the care and day-to-day running of the home. The ambassadors also support new residents to the home, helping them to settle into life at Cranford Grange.

The report went on to praise the wide variety of events and activities available at the care home, which are designed to “develop and maintain relationships to avoid social insolation” while ensuring they are “socially and culturally relevant” to the residents. These included “a varied programme of entertainment and activities” which ranges from “Pysio-fit sessions, quizzes, talks, a jazz club, gardening club, and pets as therapy sessions.” The report highlighted how each session was designed to maintain meaningful relationships.

Activities and day-to-day life at Cranford Grange are tailored to residents’ passions and their individual needs, while supporting them to remain independent where possible. Inspectors highlighted how residents attend a regular committee meeting, where each resident has the opportunity to discuss their views and feedback to team members.

This focus on resident feedback was reflected in a comment from a resident’s relative, who told the inspectors: “Our relative is very happy here, the cleaners pop in and have chats with her and the level of care is brilliant. They are very good at following up.” Another relative concluded: “The staff are very good at trying to keep resident’s independence.”

Lisa Burrows, General Manager at Cranford Grange, said: “I am incredibly proud of everyone here at Cranford Grange, and to lead such a welcoming, caring and determined team. Our ‘Good’ rating is testament to everyone’s hard work and the high-quality care we provide residents each and every day.

“We are committed to ensuring all residents receive a personalised and tailored approach to care, in a dignified, professional and caring manner. Our ethos is to help residents to continue to live active and fulfilling lives and this remains at the forefront of everything we do.

“We are all thrilled to have received this official praise from the national inspectors and look forward to celebrating with the residents soon.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Cranford Grange, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
