A resident at a care home in Poole celebrated her 101st birthday by sharing the secret to a long and happy life.
A very special birthday celebration took place at Care UK’s The Potteries, on York Road, when resident Dorothy Cattle, celebrated her 101st birthday in style, revealing her secret to longevity is to ‘live every day with a smile’.
To mark the big day, the team decorated the home’s bistro area with balloons and banners, and the home’s talented chef baked a special birthday cake for everyone to enjoy.
Dorothy also received over 101 birthday cards from local school children and members of the community on her special day.
Dorothy was born on 22nd April 1922 in Wimborne. She lived in Poole her whole life living in Constitution Hill and Parkstone.
She worked in a bakery shop in Boscombe, and she would ride her bike to work every day which was a 12-mile round trip.
Dorothy married Clarence Cattle in 1942 and they had two children together Lawrence and Valarie. She now has five grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Dorothy has enjoyed riding her bike, knitting, and still enjoys sewing at The Potteries.
Zita Turner, Home Manager at The Potteries, said: “Dorothy is a social and sprightly resident here at The Potteries and it was fantastic to help her celebrate this incredible milestone.
“Everything we do is centred around supporting residents to lead fulfilling lives, which is why we are always keen to celebrate special milestones. Dorothy’s 101st birthday was no exception, and it was wonderful to raise a glass together on her special day.
“We’d also like to thank everyone who sent in a birthday card to Dorothy. She loved all the messages she received, and it truly made her day extra special.”
