Edinburgh care homes invite local people to a right royal knees up

Two care homes in Edinburgh are opening their doors to the local community for street parties fit for a king to mark the upcoming royal coronation.

Murrayside will be inviting the local community to join their celebrations on Friday 5th May, from 1pm-3pm, to raise a glass of bubbly to King Charles.

Care UK’s Cairdean House will also be inviting local people on Saturday 6th May, from 11am-5pm, for a special garden party.

The fun-filled street parties will see guests receive the royal treatment, with live entertainment at Cairdean House from Alex Hougson, who will be performing classic songs throughout the event – sure to get everyone in the party spirit. There will also be a barbecue, including burgers, hot dogs, and coronation-themed cookies as they enjoy a live screening of the King’s Coronation.

At Murrayside, live entertainment from Jan Kowalski will be sure to get everyone dancing as they enjoy regally good hits from across the decades. Visitors will also be treated to a quintessentially British afternoon tea, including a variety of sandwiches, scones and miniature cakes, whipped up by the home’s head chef.

Celebrating in true British style, the homes will be adorned with union jack bunting and residents will have their British flags at the ready.

Suzanne Welsh, Home Manager at Murrayside, said: “It's an exciting time for the nation, and we wanted to create a memorable event that residents and the wider community can enjoy together as we commemorate the official crowning of King Charles.”

Leona Thomson, Customer Relations Manager at Cairdean House: “Here at Cairdean House, we are proud to be a part of the royal festivities.

“We’re excited to open our doors to the community and welcome the people of Edinburgh for what promises to be a truly memorable event – come along and join us for a regally good time!”

Cairdean House and Murrayside care homes have been specially designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care homes incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities, and have their own cinemas, hair salons and cafés.
