Abracadabra! Edinburgh care home celebrates tenth birthday in style

A care home in Edinburgh was joined by a magical special guest to celebrate its tenth anniversary.

The Care UK team at Cairdean House, on Redford Road, pulled out all the stops for a special birthday bash, with a live singer and magician joining the fun and marking ten years since the home welcomed the first residents.

On the day, as well as magician Tricky Ricky performing a whole host of tricks, residents were also treated to a gourmet buffet specially prepared by the home’s chef. 

Guests also had the opportunity to dance and sing-along to live music from Alex Hougson, who performed songs from across the decades. The team also decorated the home and everyone was able to enjoy the festivities in the sunshine with a glass of bubbly and slice of birthday cake.

Helena (Una) Evitt, a resident at Cairdean House, said: “My favourite part of the magic show was the children getting involved and getting a hot dog balloon made for them.”

Leona Thomson, Customer Relations Manager at Cairdean House, said: “It was fantastic to see residents enjoy magical tricks and classic tunes as we all celebrated the home’s milestone birthday.

“The whole team worked hard to organise the special event, and I am delighted to say their efforts were a huge success – our birthday party will definitely be one to remember for years to come. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who makes Cairdean House an amazing place to call home, and for helping to make the day extra special.  

“It’s been a wonderful decade, despite the challenges of recent years. We’ve welcomed some real characters to the home, built long-lasting relationships with our neighbours and hosted countless themed days – from marking special milestones and birthdays to celebrating the Queen’s jubilee with a street party. Our lifestyle team is passionate about supporting everyone to live active and fulfilling lives, and it’s been a pleasure to take part in nationwide initiatives such as Wisdom Booths and Bedtime Stories over the last few months, among many more.
