Spring has sprung! Chester care home welcomes egg-cellent new friends

A care home in Chester has watched seven chicks hatch as part of its spring celebrations.

Residents at Care UK’s Deewater Grange, on Chester Road, have been eagerly waiting to welcome the chicks, who arrived from Incredible Eggs in an incubator, ready to hatch.

As part of the spring surprise, residents were able to watch the eggs hatch live and witness the miracle of life as chicks were born in front of their very eyes. There was much excitement on the day, with residents keen to keep a close eye on the new arrivals.

Elizabeth Gater, an 87-year-old resident at Deewater Grange, said: ”It made me so happy to watch the chicks hatch and grow – my grandfather kept chickens when I was a little girl, and it brought back such nice memories of that time. I check on them every day and I love it when they fall asleep in my hand.”

Sally Cooper, Home Manager at Deewater Grange, said: “Residents have loved welcoming the chicks to our home to look after while they hatch – this spring surprise made for the best start to the season.

“Here at Deewater Grange, we are always looking for new and exciting activities for residents to enjoy, and the chicks were a wonderful way for residents to reminisce about animals they grew up around in their younger years. Animal therapy, as part of activities such as this, has proven to be incredibly beneficial for older people, as it can be calming, prompt conversations, and put a smile on everyone’s faces.

“It was a truly wonderful experience to welcome the chicks into the home!”

Incredible Eggs ethically places all chicks at the end of the hatching program and rears chicks in happy surroundings.
