A care home in Cheltenham welcomed some four-legged friends into the home to celebrate the Cheltenham Festival.
Residents at Care UK’s Sandfields, on St George’s Road, were delighted when a pair of ponies, Lollipop and Moomin, from Lollipop Ponies, trotted into the home to help residents celebrate the Cheltenham Festival.
Residents were able to interact with and learn about the gentle creatures, prompting them to reminisce about their own experiences with animals and pets they’ve had in their younger years.
96-year-old resident, Joan Boome, said: “Growing up my family always had pets, including cats, dogs and horses, so I really enjoyed meeting the ponies!”
Malaika Browne, Home Manager at Sandfields, said: “Here at Sandfields, we’re always looking for new ways to keep residents entertained and put a smile on their faces.
“Animals are a great way of improving relaxation and wellbeing in older people, helping reduce stress and increase social interaction. The residents loved meeting Lollipop and Moomin – especially as so many of them were watching the racing too!
“I’d like to extend a big thank you to Lollipop Ponies for such a lovely day – we’re already looking forward to planning our next animal encounter!”
Sandfields is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia and short-term respite care. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
