A wooly great time! Lambs visit a success at Solihull care home

Residents at a care home in Solihull were all ears when an array of four-legged visitors leaped and trotted into the home.

Residents at Care UK’s Blossomfield Grange, on Worcester Way, had a cracking time over the Easter period after welcoming four lambs into the home.

Everyone was given a chance to feed and handle the lambs, which were brought in by The Phoenix Children’s Foundation, all while learning more about them, including their personalities, favourite foods and how to look after them.

For many residents having worked in farms or grown up around similar animals, the visit was also an opportunity to reminisce and share memories from their younger years.

Tom Fisher, aged 93, said: “The lambs were so friendly. It was lovely to be able to feed them with a bottle of milk and watch them explore the home.”

Jo Bennett, General Manager at Blossomfield Grange, added: “Everyone at Blossomfield Grange certainly had a spring in their step after welcoming the lambs into the home.

“Spending time with animals has been shown to have many therapeutic advantages for older people, particularly for those living with dementia, as it helps lower anxiety and creates relaxing endorphins. You could see from the residents' reactions just how much they enjoyed interacting with the animals.

“It proved to be a wonderful opportunity to reminisce too, with many residents sharing their animal stories from childhood. We look forward to welcoming more animals of all shapes and sizes in the future!”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence,

Blossomfield Grange incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
