Love was in the air at a Bury St Edmunds care home when two couples celebrated a pair of very special milestones.
Two anniversary celebrations took place at Care UK’s Glastonbury Court, on Glastonbury Road, when 78-year-old Sally and 81-year-old Trevor Root toasted to their 60th wedding anniversary, and 87-year-old Peter and 86-year-old Molly Wilding celebrated reaching 65 years of married life together.
Sally and Trevor met at a local dance in Girton, Cambridge, in 1959, where the pair fell head over heels for one another. The couple went on to marry four years later, on 23rd March in 1963 at St Andrews Church, in Cambridge. Together, Sally and Trevor have three children, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Commenting on the secret to a long and happy marriage, Trevor said: “I’ve learned to always admit that Sally is right – and to do as I’m told!”
Both born in Suffolk, it was almost love at first sight when Peter and Molly met at a local dance. Molly had arrived at the dance accompanied by another young man, but keen to spend more time with Molly, Peter ensured he escorted her home. The next day, Peter won Molly over after playing an impressive game of cricket. The pair went on to marry at the ages of just 21 and 22, on 15th March 1958 at Lawsall Church – near where they both grew up.
Commenting on their long and happy marriage, Peter said: “We just clicked! I can’t remember a time where we rowed or said a cross word to one another – we just clicked in everything we do.”
To toast the special milestones, Glastonbury Court’s Head Chef prepared a surprise romantic meal for Peter and Molly to enjoy, and the room was specially decorated with balloons and banners for the occasion. The team also organised a special afternoon tea for the couple, where Peter and Molly’s family were invited along to join the celebrations.
The team went above and beyond to ensure that Trevor and Sally’s anniversary was special too – surprising them with their favourite meal in the home’s pub, surrounded by roses and glasses of bubbly on hand. Team members also helped arrange for Trevor to surprise Sally with a visit to their local garden centre.
Ana Mihai, Home Manager at Glastonbury Court, said: “Here at Glastonbury Court, we love any excuse for a party – so Peter and Molly, and Trevor and Sally’s wedding anniversaries certainly called for double the celebrations and double the fun!
“Marking such special occasions at the home allowed many of the residents to reminisce and share fond memories of their own wedding days – it was lovely to hear their stories too. Happy anniversary to Peter and Molly, and to Sally and Trevor.”
