A care home in Worcester was joined by some beaky buddies who swooped in to celebrate this year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.
Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, welcomed a flock of feathered friends into the home and residents had the unique opportunity to get up close to the impressive birds.
As part of the animal therapy session, residents learnt about the history and characteristics of the birds, as well as other interesting facts about the calming creatures. The impressive birds, including a barn owl, a white-faced owl and a European kestrel, were brought by Walks with Hawks, for all to admire and take on their arm if they dared.
Maureen Richardson, 84-year-old resident at Perry Manor, said: “I enjoyed having all the birds come to visit – I have never seen one up close before and it was such a special experience.”
Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor, said: “We all enjoyed a wonderful afternoon meeting the impressive creatures and it was great to watch the wildlife on our doorstep too.
“Here at Perry Manor, we are always seeking new and exciting activities for residents to enjoy. Animal therapy has proven to be incredibly beneficial for older people, as it can have a calming effect, improving mood and energy levels, as well as encouraging conversations.
“We were delighted to be part of the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch again this year and to welcome the impressive birds into the home – a big thank you again to Walks with Hawks!”
