Residents at a care home in Worcester have been spending time with the younger generation as part of a nationwide initiative.
Team members at Care UK’s Perry Manor, on Charles Hastings Way, hosted a reminiscence session for residents, where they spent time with young children from ‘Debutots’ and shared memories of their own childhood.
Residents recalled their younger days and shared stories and wise words with the young children as part of a new intergenerational project – Wisdom Booths.
The Wisdom Booths initiative sees Care UK homes share their advice with younger generations after a national survey found 88% of people in the UK are grateful for what they’ve been told by their elders and 56% will always rely on them for advice, regardless of how old they are.
Katherine Matthews, Home Manager at Perry Manor, said: “We had a lovely morning hosting this wonderful reminiscence session with the children.
“We were delighted to welcome the Debutots for a special intergenerational session, where residents were encouraged to share their own memories from their younger years. Playing an active role in the community is hugely important here at Perry Manor, and community-based activities, like this session, are a brilliant way to spark conversation and encourage new friendships that span the generations.
“The session proved very useful for those who visited, and I think the residents also learnt a thing or two from each other.”
