Kingston Vale care home residents share pearls of wisdom with younger team members

Residents at a care home in Kingston Vale have been passing on their advice to the younger generation as part of a nationwide initiative.

Residents at Care UK’s Sherwood Grange, on Robin Hood Lane, have been sharing advice on how to live a long and happy life to younger team members as part of a new intergenerational project – Wisdom Booths.

 

The Wisdom Booths initiative sees Care UK homes share their advice with younger generations after a national survey found 88% of people in the UK are grateful for what they’ve been told by their elders and 56% will always rely on them for advice, regardless of how old they are.

The pearls of wisdom at Sherwood Grange included 92 -year-old resident Ilene’s advice, who said: “Do everything in your power to be happy.”

Kristina Jacunskiene, Home Manager at Sherwood Grange said, said: “Wisdom Booths is a fantastic initiative that encourages residents to share their wonderful and wise life lessons with others.

"Intergenerational relationships have shown to be incredibly fulfilling, as they give younger and older generations a chance to learn from one another. These connections can be especially helpful for older people as they can provide a sense of purpose and spark discussions about their childhood. 

"We'd like to say a huge thanks to the residents for sharing their advice, and we look forward to putting their pearls of wisdom into practice!”

Sherwood Grange has been designed to encourage residents to live active and fulfilling lives, while remaining as independent as possible in a safe environment.
