Kilts at the ready! Care home residents go on dream trip

Two care home residents from Windsor had their dream come true when they travelled almost 400 miles to Glasgow.

Residents, Jocelyn Baxendale and James Watters who both live at Care UK’s Mountbatten Grange, on Helston Lane, wished to revisit the Scottish city where they had both spent time in their younger years – and the team couldn’t wait to help their dream become a reality.

Jocelyn had grown up in Glasgow and had studied nursing at St. Bartholomew Hospital. She always wanted to return to her hometown.

James had also lived in Scotland for most of his life until he moved to Kilburn for work. He wanted to be reunited with his two brothers who both still live near Glasgow, and he had seen for over five years.

The pair – joined by Care UK team members, Traci Jacobs, Ignacia Campos and Felicity Mala-Mace – travelled by plane to Glasgow where James was reunited with his two brothers. Jocelyn re-visited old landmarks of the city and the university she studied so hard in.

Jocelyn said: “It was much busier than I remembered. It was fantastic to see how it had grown.”

James added: “Seeing my brothers and extended family after all this time was just amazing.”

Debbie Winwood, Home Manager at Mountbatten Grange, said: “It’s a huge privilege for us to be able to fulfill residents’ wishes and this one was no exception. We had a wonderful time taking Jocelyn and James both back up to Glasgow where they have so many memories.

“Here at Mountbatten Grange, we are passionate about helping residents’ dreams come true whether that be a trip to the garden centre or returning to school – the sky’s the limit!

“I am so proud of the team for continuing to fulfill resident wishes. The smiles on Jocelyn and James faces were a picture and hearing about their beautiful memories from Scotland made the trip even more special.”
