Best pal-paca’s – Edgbaston care home visited by a herd of fluffy four-legged friends

A care home in Edgbaston was joined by some unusual friends for a special afternoon of animal fun.

Residents at Care UK’s Edgbaston Manor, on Speedwell Road, gathered to welcome two friendly alpacas, Daisy and Miriam, in the home’s garden where they received plenty of fuss and attention.

As part of the animal therapy session, residents learnt about the history and characteristics of alpacas, as well as other interesting facts about the calming animals.

Commenting on the visit, resident Rosalind Dolton, said: “The alpacas were amazing! It's wonderful how they have their own personalities with one being shy and the other very confident. They are just wonderful animals and so well behaved too.”

Zoe Steventon, General Manager at Edgbaston Manor, said: “We had a wonderful afternoon welcoming our very special guests, Daisy and Miriam, to Edgbaston Manor.

“We are always looking for new and exciting activities for residents to enjoy that offer a memorable experience, likely not experienced before. Animal therapy has proven to be incredibly beneficial for older people, as it can be calming, prompt conversations, and put a smile on everyone’s faces. Alpacas are known for being gentle animals, which makes them perfect for care home visits.

“It was lovely to welcome Daisy and Miriam into the home, and we look forward to welcoming them and other animals, big or small, to Edgbaston Manor in the future!”

Edgbaston Manor has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The home has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents. There is also plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
