I can hear the bells – care home residents surprised with recreation of son’s wedding

Wedding bells were ringing at a care home in Dorset after a resident was surprised with a re-enactment of her son and daughter-in-law’s wedding after being unable to attend the big day.

81-year-old Shirley Schofield, who lives at Care UK’s Ferndown Manor, on Golf Links Road, was unable to accompany son Richard and now-wife, Vivienne on their special day, so the team at Ferndown Manor decided to surprise her by bringing the wedding to her instead. 

 

Richard and Vivienne arrived at the care home dressed to impress in their wedding outfits, where the home’s lifestyle team had pulled out all the stops with a special afternoon tea in the garden, complete with prosecco to toast the happy couple.

The newly married couple brought the same flowers and even the same vicar from their day to recreate it as closely to the real day as possible. 

The Care UK team invited residents and team members to attend the special ceremony in the home’s garden and the Head Chef created a spread of delicious food, including freshly cooked scones and sandwiches.
