Cambridge care home donation gets the thumbs up from local community

A St Ives care home has made a generous donation to Hinchingbrooke Country Park.

Care UK’s Field Lodge, on London Road, presented the Friends of Hinchingbrooke Country Park with a cheque for £690 to provide a picnic bench for its new sensory garden. Hinchingbrooke Country Park – which holds a Green Flag award - covers 150 acres of grasslands, mature woodlands and lakes.

Keen to blend in with an eco-friendly environment, the picnic bench will be made from recycled material, in-keeping with the beautiful, natural surroundings of the park.

A sensory garden is also being created, which will be a welcome haven for the community, inviting locals to relax in a calming and peaceful atmosphere. There will be wheelchair accessible planters, which residents at Field Lodge – who are regular visitors – will use to grow herbs and flowers.

Teresa Fairchild, Events Manager for the Friends of Hinchingbrooke County Park, said: “The bench is a brilliant addition to the park and the fact that it is wheelchair accessible means it can be enjoyed by anyone.

“A huge thank you to Field Lodge care home for this lovely gift – we can’t wait to see you all back again soon!”

Linda Martinez, Home Manager at Field Lodge, added: “Residents at Field Lodge love gardening and spending time outdoors, with regular visits to Hinchingbrooke Country Park on the agenda, which is why we were thrilled to be contributing to such a wonderful creation for the community and also to hear about and support the creation of the sensory garden. Gardening is a great way for older people to keep active, as well as vastly improving wellbeing and this will provide further opportunities for residents to take up the hobby.

Field Lodge is a modern, purpose-built care home providing full-time residential, nursing, and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has a choice of lounges and dining rooms, along with facilities such as an activity room, cinema and hair salon.
