Residents at a Sidcup care home celebrated 83 years of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ with a surprise performance from team members.
Residents at Care UK’s Smyth Lodge, on Frognal Avenue, followed the ‘yellow brick road’ to the home’s cinema to enjoy a viewing of the classic film, ‘The Wizard of Oz’, before being surprised with a real-life retelling by the home’s team members.
Residents were thrilled to see team members dressed up as the well-known characters as they strutted into the home’s lounge for a sing-along of the classic, ‘We’re off to see the wizard’.
Commenting on the surprise performance, resident Alice Knightley, said: “Watching the film and seeing the team all dressed up took me back to when I first saw the film, aged 11.”
Tracey Cheeseman, Home Manager at Smyth Lodge said: “Most of the residents were very young children when ‘The Wizard of Oz’ was released in 1939, so the film’s 83rd anniversary felt like a wonderful opportunity for them to reminisce about their younger years.
“It was fantastic to see everyone enjoying a good old-fashioned sing-along – the show was certainly a hit!”
