Cooking up a storm – Banbury chef up for national award

A Banbury care home chef has been shortlisted for a coveted national award.

Yavor Dimitrov, Head Chef at Care UK’s Highmarket House, on North Bar Place, will be competing with some of the nation’s best cooks to be crowned ‘Chef of the Year’ at the National Association of Care Catering Awards.

The National Association of Care Catering Awards rewards individuals, teams, companies and organisations who go above and beyond to deliver high-quality, nutritious food in a care setting.

Inspired by Care UK’s innovative approach to residents’ food and dining experience, Yavor joined Highmarket House in 2017.  He brought with him an impressive CV, which included studying at a prestigious culinary school in Bulgaria and working for high-end hotels and restaurants up and down the country.

Francesca Cowley, Home Manager at Highmarket House, said: “Yavor is passionate about food – and this shines through every dish he makes for residents at Highmarket House.

“He always takes the time to speak with every resident to find out more about their preferences and makes sure their favourite dish regularly makes an appearance on the menu. Many of the residents here are well-travelled, and several are from overseas, so there’s definitely a broad range of expectations and favourite foods – which Yavor consistently meets.

“From making bespoke cakes for residents’ birthdays to cooking cuisines from around the world, Yavor’s extensive cooking knowledge and attention to detail, along with his creativity, ensure that residents’ needs are met with high-quality foods. Well done Yavor – we’ll keep our fingers crossed for a win!”
