A care home in Weymouth has been praised by national inspectors for its leadership and positive, caring culture.
The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Care UK’s Anning House, on Cross Road, an overall ‘Good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection.
The home received ‘Good’ ratings in all three categories, including safety, responsiveness and having a well-led service.
The team impressed CQC inspectors with the kind and compassionate interactions between residents and team members. Team members were noted to be asking residents for their opinions and communicating with in specific ways tailored to each individual.
Residents are actively encouraged to try new hobbies and activities at the care home, with the lifestyle team on hand to support residents to lead fulfilling lives.
Inspectors observed activities during the day, including reminiscence activities, flower arranging and discussions about the daily news. They noted activities team members were passionate about further developing activities for residents.
One relative said: "All the staff are so kind and loving and Mum is treated with the utmost respect and patience. She really enjoys the excellent array of activities on offer, the delicious food and the opportunity to have her hair and nails done regularly.”
Additionally, inspectors noted that Anning House was well led. The General Manager, Michelle Harwood, was praised for her passion and vision for the home, as well as her commitment to ensure continuous learning and improvement across the team.
The inspectors saw a positive culture in the home, where team members felt supported and included, and the management team were approachable and helpful.
A relative fed back to the General Manager: “We trust Anning House staff completely and really appreciate the communication between us to keep us up to date with Mum's needs…Mum is very happy at Anning House, which in turn makes us happy and gives us peace of mind.”

“It's wonderful to see the great remarks from the CQC inspectors; it is a real tribute to the team's dedication and commitment to continuing to deliver high-quality care.
“I want to offer my heartfelt appreciation to everyone at Anning House for their dedication, especially over the last couple of years. They are the reason that our care home is such a wonderful environment for all of the residents to live, and I appreciate all they do on a daily basis.”
The team at Anning House is inviting the community to join them for a charity walk on the 29th June at 10am, from Anning House to Bowleaze Cove, to raise funds for The David Ellis Charity. The charity supports veterans, their families, and those still serving across Dorset. Anning House is also inviting the local community enjoy a special garden party after the walk to celebrate the home’s ’Good’ CQC rating.
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Anning House, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The home provides full-time residential care, nursing care, dementia care and respite care. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
