Round of ap-paws for pets at Kidderminster care home

Residents were delighted when several four-legged friends walked into their Kidderminster care home for a special visit.

Pablo, the Shar-Pei, and Gary, the guinea pig, popped into Care UK’s Brook Court, on Oldnall Road, to say hello in celebration of National Love Your Pet Day.

Celebrating the furry members of their families, team members brought along their pets for a morning filled with nibbling lettuce leaves and playing fetch, giving residents an opportunity to reminisce about the pets they’d had in younger years. Everyone also had the opportunity to stroke and pet the friendly creatures.

Katrina Riches, Home Manager at Brook Court, said: “We had a fantastic time celebrating National Love Your Pet Day with two of our favourite furry friends.

“You could see from everyone’s reactions how engaged they were to meet Pablo and Gary, and it was wonderful to meet some of the pets we’ve heard so much about.

“Here at Brook Court, we know just how beneficial animal therapy can be for older people, especially for those living with dementia. Being close to animals can help lift a person’s mood, stimulate social interaction and ease agitation – and our cuddly companions were brilliant at doing just that!”

Brook Court is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. The care home, which features 67 en-suite bedrooms, has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
