A care home in Solihull has taken part in a very special exercise class taught by 1980s fitness star, the Green Goddess.
Residents and team members at Care UK’s Blossomfield Grange, on Worcester Way, donned their workout wear and green accessories to take part in the bespoke virtual session with fitness guru Diana Moran, which forms part of Care UK’s ‘Let’s Get Physical’ initiative.
Diana, known as the Green Goddess, is best known for hosting 'wake up and shape up' on breakfast television while wearing her trademark green leotard in the 1980s.
As part of their activities, residents at Blossomfield Grange enjoyed a tailored workout class which included a selection of standing and armchair exercises, that have been designed to improve strength, flexibility, and blood circulation.
In addition to the 80s themed workout classes, residents have also been enjoying a cycling challenge on the home’s cycling machine, with team members and residents challenging each other to be top of the leader board.
The ‘Let’s Get Physical’ initiative sees Care UK homes across the country encourage residents to get active by trying something new and exciting – whether that be a fitness class with the Green Goddess, a seated ballet class, disco yoga or even ice skating.
Heather James, General Manager at Blossomfield Grange, said: “We’ve had great fun discovering new ways to get up and active this January.
“Here at Blossomfield Grange, we understand that trying new activities can positively impact resident’s mental and emotional wellbeing, as well as improving their physical health too. Taking part in new and exciting forms of exercise, such as 80s inspired exercise classes and cycling challenges, present residents with a new challenge. This can lead to greater self-confidence, which encourages older people to embrace their later years with gusto, retain their independence, and lead fulfilling lives.
“Everyone has really enjoyed taking part so far, and we are already planning our next set of quirky activities.”
Diana Moran, the Green Goddess, added: “I am delighted to support Care UK to encourage residents across the country to get active by trying something new.
“Regardless of age, keeping active is what keeps us young. Whether it’s walking a little further on your everyday stroll, or exercising a little longer, every day brings a new possibility. Even for those less mobile, chair-based exercises can be just as beneficial. Nothing should get in the way of you being the best version of you!”
Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, Blossomfield Grange, which remains open to potential residents, incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities. The building has been configured into a series of neighbourhoods to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities and encourage social interaction among the residents.
